BIWE researchers in Westminster Parliament to discuss soil, climate and human health

Dr. Marja Roslund and Dr. Aki Sinkkonen attended a roundtable discussion at Westminster Parliament on climate, soil health, and human health in September 2025.

The conversation brought together policymakers, scientists, and health professionals to explore the vital interconnections between the ground beneath our feet and the wellbeing of people and the planet.

Event was convened by Co-Executive Directors Ellen Fay and Matthew Orman working with Merlin Sheldrake, Prof Karen Johnson, Adv Cairo Robb, and Roz Savage MBE. Together, they demonstrated the huge opportunities of the Climate and Nature Bill and called for environmental policies with soil at their heart.

Soil is the invisible thread connecting a wide range of critical issues—from water quality and food security to flood mitigation, nature recovery, and public health.

With the EU recognising the critical role of soil health in nature and climate through a €1bn soil health programme, alongside a further €100bn of private finance identified as essential for delivery.
